I am a veterinary surgeon, but no longer directly involved in day to day practice, so this allows me to devote plenty of time to my role as a County Councillor.
I was delighted to be elected in May 2107 to represent you, thank you.
The recurring theme on the doorstep was that you felt this area needed a stronger voice, above all the roads were a mess, and it was high time something was done!
I have listened to your concerns, and am working very hard on your behalf. Many roads have already had treatments since I was elected, and because I have been most proactive, more are in the pipeline. There are other issues that residents have raised that I am also hoping to resolve, in particular there are some areas with intransigent parking problems. Whilst this is of course the responsibility of the Borough, we are all working hard together to find some permanent solutions.
I work closely with my fellow colleagues including our MP, Grant Shapps to make sure whatever the issue your views are known. At all times I strive to solve local difficulties. Of course, not every problem can be solved, but I will deal promptly with any issue and strive to do my best.
At County Hall I sit on the Adult Care, and the Public Health, Prevention and Performance panels, which meet at least monthly. I have recently served on Adult Safeguarding, Domestic Abuse topic groups, as well as scrutinising the Environment Planning and Transport portfolio, and the Children's Services portfolio for the Integrated Plan. I found this very interesting.
I find Public Health fascinating, and as a vet I am especially interested in the role that dogs (and cats) can play in improving the wellbeing and quality of life of residents. I hope to instigate a number of initiatives in HCC.
I was instrumental in setting up RAPPAW, a Hertfordshire Constabulary Scheme, where time spent with the pet dog of a member of police staff assists in the rapport building stage of evidence giving, and also in rebuilding shattered confidence of victims, particularly the elderly.
The effects are heart truly warming.
