Tony Kingsbury: Welwyn West

I’m very proud to represent the residents of Welwyn West, covering Welwyn, the Ayots and part of Oaklands & Mardley Heath.

I have lived in Hertfordshire for most of my life, in the borough since 1988 and in the lovely village of Welwyn since 2009. I studied Physics at Imperial Colleague leading me to become an electronics engineer by day but I really enjoy the contrast, but also similarities, my council work brings.

Following the sad death of Mandy Perkins, I have taken on the role of Leader of the Council. I am enjoying the challenges this brings and all the new things I am learning.

Being first elected as a councillor in 2009, I have really enjoyed doing what I can for residents and the community ever since, helping with many issues including planning, waste collections, litter, parking and housing. I really appreciate hearing from you. It’s not always easy, but always interesting!

In 2010 I became a member of the Cabinet responsible for leisure services in the Borough as well as performance of council services, communications and equality and diversity.

I was pleased to chair the Hatfield Town Team for several years, a group of interested parties working to improve the town centre and found it rewarding to see the improvements there. A great achievement for me was getting the skate park built for young people in Hatfield.

I love life in Welwyn, whether walking around the ward, meeting people, litter picking to keep the village tidy or of course eating and drinking in our varied hostelries!

I, along with my fellow ward councillors, are at surgery once a month at St Marys Church at 10am on the 3rd Saturday of the month, except June when it’s the 2nd Saturday so that we and you can enjoy the fantastic Welwyn Festival. Otherwise, please feel free to email or phone me as I’m always happy to help and represent you on local ward or Borough issues.
