I am proud to represent the residents of Welwyn West on the Borough Council, covering Welwyn, the Ayots and part of Oaklands & Mardley Heath, a role I have held since 2016.
Since 2021, it has also been a privilege to serve on Hertfordshire County Council, representing Welwyn Division, which includes the areas above as well as Woolmer Green, additional parts of Oaklands & Mardley Heath, Digswell and part of the Sherrards ward in Welwyn Garden City.
I have lived in Hertfordshire for most of my life—within Welwyn Hatfield since 1988 and in the wonderful village of Welwyn since 2009. I studied Physics at Imperial College, which led to a career as an electronics engineer. Although now retired from engineering, I enjoy the contrast—and unexpected similarities—between that work and my duties as a councillor.
I was first elected to the Borough Council in 2009 and have greatly valued the opportunity to support residents and the community ever since. Over the years, I have assisted with a wide range of issues including planning, waste collections, litter, parking, highways and housing. Hearing from residents is always appreciated; the work is not always easy, but it is always interesting.
In 2010, I joined the Cabinet with primary responsibility for leisure services. In May 2018, I became Deputy Leader with responsibility for Housing, before serving as Leader from November 2018 to 2023. I have also been the Group Leader of the local group since 2018. When control of the Council changed in 2023, I became Leader of the Opposition.
At Hertfordshire County Council, I served as Cabinet Member for Adult Care, Health and Wellbeing from 2022 until 2025. Following the change of administration in 2025, I now serve as the Opposition Spokesman for Adult Care.
I love life in Welwyn and the local area, and I always enjoy meeting residents—whether to talk about our communities or to help with any issues they may have.
Please feel free to email or phone me. I am always happy to help and to represent you on local, Borough and County matters.
